To all those who
attended the festival, thank you for helping make the event such a great
day – that goes to vegans and not yet vegans alike. It was great
to see you all together, talking to each other about all sorts, and
having a great time. Thank you also to the people who have contacted
us for vegan buddies. We are on the case, and the fact that you want
to go vegan means that you can! Going vegan is not the hard part. Understanding
why to go vegan, thinking about it, that is the hard part. So you have
done the hard work. You have looked at why you wanted to change, understand
it, and now just have to get into the habit of living vegan. You can
do it, and we are here to help you keep it up. Six weeks from now you
will be over any cheese cravings that may linger, and will never want
to eat animal products again.
Also, a big thank you to the Vegan Society,
Redwoods, the Coco Tree and Zedz Foods for sponsoring us. We wouldn’t
have been able to do the day at all without your support. It cost us
approximately six and a half thousand pounds, but was well worth it
for all the new vegans out there. Keep an eye out by the way for a cookery
video sponsored by Redwoods, including “chickenless kiev”,
“steakless mushroom pie”, pizza (but of course!) and “no-tuna
melt.” (Very popular with kids this last.) Hopefully this will
be coming out in the next few months. The steakless mushroom pie by
the way got us some really good coverage in the West Midlands, when
a radio presenter on BBC WM said “If I didn’t know you were
vegan I would have thought this was meat.” When he asked for the
recipe he was astonished that it was just four ingredients! An Irish
newspaper has asked for recipes as well, and these details will be posted
as soon as the article is printed.
We are looking forward to hearing the
local BBC radio reporter who covered the event. She was completely positive,
terribly enthusiastic, and asked for a vegan buddy. It would be great
if the editor and producer let her enthusiasm show in the final cut.
That is going out this Sunday. I will send the link and time when the
editor has confirmed these.
Again, thank you everyone for helping
create a very successful day. Despite the fact that there were bouncers
on the door till eleven o clock who rather put people off coming in,
we had over 2000 attend. The downstairs area had standing room for 2000
with the stalls set up, and was always half full. Upstairs had about
3 to 4 hundred through the day. After I spoke to the manager about the
undesirability of the bouncers he opened all the doors, got one bouncer
to stand back and count people on a clicker coming in. So he is confident
that there were at least 2000 – and it was great to see people
converted to veganism on the day, and for us to hear from them since.
Thanks to Rueben for talking a man into veganism from being an omnivore,
and thanks to Joan Dunayer for turning several veggies vegan over the
course of her fantastic and stimulating talk. I have since heard from
three long term veggies who have finally made the change.
We will keep you updated with information
about the videos (Veggie Vision were also filming) and any subsequent
media. Again, thank you all so much for your support.
